Named after the Tequesta Indians. The Village of Tequesta is located in the northernmost part of Palm Beach County.
According to waterfrontproperties.com, author Charles Martyn inquired as to how to describe Tequesta back in 1955. A local bridge keeper depicted this area as a “jungle,” which led Martyn to explore the land and plan development. He fell in love with the unique site and proceeded to purchase 86 acres of this enticing, wild, alluring area.
While exploring the area, Martyn and his team stumbled upon a Native American mound of artifacts and discovered it belonged to the Tequesta Indians. The Tequesta Indians lived in the modern-day Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Martyn proceeded to name the beautiful area “Tequesta” in honor of the powerful tribe.
