Palm Beach Gardens was originally dubbed Palm Beach City back in 1959 by John D. MacArthur, multimillionaire insurance mogul, and landowner. However, the name Palm Beach City was quickly declined, so MacArthur decided to coin the name “Palm Beach Gardens” after his dream of a “garden city” complete with endless trees and flowers.
He desired to develop and provide homes for 55,000 in a community that they could call their own. His thought was to truly create the “American Dream” and provide a residence where people could flourish in work, play, and home life.
MacArthur’s garden city came to fruition, and by 1964, the industry and recreation in Palm Beach Gardens were flourishing. By 1970, the area was home to over 6,000 people.
Over the years, several PGA tournaments, including the Seniors and the World Cup, were hosted in Palm Beach Gardens. Palm Beach Gardens continued to become the garden city that MacArthur dreamed of, and it still holds that legacy to this day.
In present day, the city holds many gated communities, 12 golf courses, and is home to the Professional Golfer’s Association of America. The Honda Classic is a huge draw to tourists and community members, inviting a rich taste of knowledge and sport. The Gardens Mall provides a luxury shopping experience for all. Just inland from the coast but still central to the salty ocean smell, Palm Beach Gardens is the perfect place to engage with activities and provide a work-life balance for all.
