Are you envisioning a New Year with a New Home? If so, you’ve come to the right place!
BSR Realty Group is aware that it isn’t easy to move during the holiday season, especially when you will be relocating to a new home. Between numerous get-togethers, gifts, and holiday travel, it can seem near impossible to move locations all at the same time. However, while the holidays can be hectic, it can also be the perfect time to prepare for that big relocation move in the new year.
Enjoy our holiday gift – from us to you! Here are five tips to prepare for relocating in the new year:
1. Do Your Research
Before you even start planning the big move, do your research. Check out the new area you are moving to and make sure to evaluate movers. If you plan on hiring a long-distance mover, evaluate the best company for your needs. Make sure you investigate your new neighborhood and make sure you have everything you need to make the move.
2. Use the Holiday Downtime to Prep
We know the holidays can be crazy busy, but there are those few moments of relaxation and peace. Use this time to hang in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate and dive into your to-do’s. Plan out your moving schedule, decide when you will be tackling packing, and evaluate how you’re going to get everything situated for the big day. You can also use holiday parties to chat with fellow friends and coworkers about potential moving companies or the best place to find boxes for cheap. Enjoy the holidays, but also use your time wisely with planning, and you will feel prepared for your move in the new year.
3. Tackle Packing & Holiday Decorations
Don’t be overwhelmed by all your items! You can tackle everything in one sweep. While taking down holiday decorations, be strategic with how you pack them. Make sure it is efficient packing for moving. Mark your boxes as you put away items and keep them in the garage, so you don’t have to worry about hauling them up to the attic, only to take them down again in a few weeks. Use this time also to start packing away the items you would originally put out in the new year. Take each day one-by-one and break down packing tasks into smaller tasks – you will get through the packing madness!
4. Stick to a Budget
It can be difficult to stick to a budget when you are trying to crawl out from under holiday gift fees. However, the move will go seamlessly if you create a budget and stick to it. Invest in a budget journal (or ask for one from Santa!) and begin bulleting out exactly how much you can afford to spend with moving. Track all expenses and trim costs where you can. Your wallet (and your New Year budget) will surely thank you!
5. Get Ready for Move-in Day
It’s finally arrived – move-in day! Rejoice in the time it took to get to this spot. You made it through the holidays and now you are about to enjoy the joy of your dream home. You did it! Don’t skip this feeling – you should be proud. Be excited and get ready for a long week. Soon enough, it will be this time next year and you will be enjoying the 2022 holidays in your new home and thinking back to last year.
